FAQ
Common Questions
When making the transformative choice to pursue addiction treatment, you want to be sure the program is right for you or your family member. Here are some essential questions to consider before committing to a program:

Does the program have enough counselors and psychologists to provide individual attention?
Pavillon’s average patient-to-counselor ratio is 8:1. In addition to counselors, Pavillon staffs two full-time clinical psychologists (PhDs) who provide psychological evaluations, psychological testing (if needed), and individualized care.
Does the program have a full-time spiritual care director?
Yes. Our full-time spiritual care director provides spiritual counseling to promote recovery and personal well-being. This director also works with our treatment team to ensure each patient’s individual goals and spiritual needs are addressed.
Is the treatment center located in an environment conducive to recovery?
Pavillon is situated on 160 acres in the foothills of the Western North Carolina mountains. Our peaceful campus includes open space, hiking trails, walking areas, and the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, providing an ideal setting for reflection and healing.
What is included in the cost of treatment?
The cost of our program is based on a daily room charge. At Pavillon, we provide care from a multidisciplinary team that includes nursing, counseling, case management, medical professionals, psychiatrists, and psychologists. There are no additional charges for these services during treatment.
Do you accept insurance?
About 90% of our patients use insurance to help cover treatment costs. We understand that navigating insurance can be overwhelming, so our team assists with benefits verification, precertifications, ongoing utilization reviews, and claims filing. Every insurance plan differs, so we encourage you to speak with our patient finance manager to understand your specific coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
Does Pavillon offer financial assistance?
Yes. Entering residential treatment is an investment for both the individual and their family. To assist with the cost of care, we offer:
- Insurance support – We work with insurance companies to maximize reimbursement.
- Scholarships and financial aid – Available for those who qualify.
- Donor-supported assistance – Contributions from generous supporters help individuals access treatment.
- Loan options – We can help connect you with potential lending resources.
How long is the treatment program?
Our primary residential treatment program lasts six weeks, following any necessary medical detox. Detox and treatment are separate processes—detox ensures medical stability before engaging in the therapeutic and recovery-focused aspects of the program. This structured approach allows time for deep emotional healing, skill-building, and relapse prevention planning.
Can I stay for less than six weeks?
We require everyone to stay for the six-week program, as change and growth happen in stages. Recovery is a process, and each week is designed to build upon the previous one, starting with stabilization, followed by cognitive and emotional work, and concluding with comprehensive recovery planning. Leaving early can disrupt this process and reduce the effectiveness of treatment.
Will I lose time from work?
We understand that taking time off from work can be a concern. However, prioritizing your health and recovery now can ultimately enhance your career and long-term success. Many patients find that treatment helps them regain stability and improves their professional and personal lives. When necessary, we can work with your employer to explore options such as medical leave or short-term disability accommodations.
What happens during check-in?
Upon arrival, we welcome you and any loved ones accompanying you. The check-in process includes meeting with our admissions team, a medical evaluation, and, if needed, detoxification and stabilization. You’ll receive an orientation covering program expectations, daily schedules, and available resources to help you feel comfortable as you begin your journey toward recovery.
Are there exercise and recreation opportunities?
Absolutely! Physical wellness is an integral part of recovery. We offer a variety of activities, including access to a wellness room equipped with cardio machines and weights, scenic hiking trails, a volleyball court, yoga and meditation sessions, and spiritual counseling. These activities provide opportunities for stress relief, physical health improvement, and overall well-being.
What should I bring?
For a detailed list of what to pack, visit our ‘Preparing to Arrive’ page. We recommend bringing comfortable, season-appropriate clothing, toiletries, and any necessary medications (which will be reviewed upon arrival). We also suggest a journal, books, or other personal items that support your recovery journey.
How much individual therapy will I receive?
While our program emphasizes the benefits of group therapy and peer support, each patient receives at least one individual counseling session per week. Based on clinical recommendations and your personalized treatment plan, additional sessions may be scheduled. Our goal is to provide the right balance of individual attention and community-based healing.
What’s the difference between primary residential treatment and extended care?
Primary residential treatment focuses on foundational recovery, including education, therapy, and relapse prevention. Extended Care is designed for those who need additional time to work through personal relapse factors, unresolved trauma, or other barriers to long-term sobriety. This phase provides more profound therapeutic work and continued structure to strengthen recovery skills before transitioning to independent living.
Will my depression or anxiety be addressed?
Yes, we recognize that mental health conditions like depression and anxiety often co-occur with addiction. Our integrated approach includes psychological assessments, therapy, and medication management when appropriate. Our team includes licensed psychologists and an addiction psychiatrist to ensure comprehensive care for both substance use and mental health concerns.
What defines a successful treatment outcome?
Success in recovery is about more than abstaining from substances—it’s about living a fulfilling, productive, and healthy life. A successful outcome means building resilience, developing coping strategies, repairing relationships, and creating a sustainable support system. Many of our past patients go on to achieve long-term sobriety, personal growth, and professional success.
What if I relapse after treatment?
Relapse does not mean failure; it is often part of the recovery process for many individuals. Addiction is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management. If a relapse occurs, we encourage you to reach out for support. We offer relapse prevention resources, alumni support, and, if needed, options for returning to treatment or stepping into a structured aftercare program.
Can I take my prescription medications during treatment?
Most prescription medications are allowed, but each medication is carefully reviewed to ensure it is safe and appropriate for a recovery setting. Some prescriptions may not be permitted if they pose a risk to sobriety. Our medical team will work with you to assess your medication needs and explore alternative options if necessary.
